Motor Vehicle Insurance

Motor Vehicle Insurance

There are three types of cover for vehicle owners as follows:

  • Third Party Only (TPO)– This is the minimum legal requirement for motor vehicle insurance. It covers the insured’s legal liability to third parties for bodily injury, death or damage to their property arising out of the use of the insured vehicle.
  • Third Party Fire and Theft (TPFT)– In addition to the coverage provided by TPO, this policy covers loss or damage to the insured vehicle as a result of fire or theft.
  • Comprehensive Policy– This policy covers loss or damage to the insured vehicle, as well as third-party liability, and usually includes additional benefits such as personal accident cover for the driver and passengers, windscreen damage, and roadside assistance. The scope of coverage varies between insurance companies and policies.
